Since 1994, Age-In-Place has been a presence in the community and a dependable service for hundreds of seniors.
Age-In-Place: Volunteer
Each year, Age-In-Place: Volunteer services recruits and leads hundreds of volunteers to help frail, low and moderate-income elderly in Washington, DC remain safely and comfortably in their homes. Through the work of volunteers, seniors are assisted with projects that clean, de-clutter and improve their homes, inside and out. The variety of projects include house and yard maintenance, painting, heavy cleaning, and light repairs. In addition to these housing support services, a few volunteers participate in one-on-one relationships and provide friendship and encouragement by phone through the Telephone Ministry or direct personal assistance with errands and personal needs in the Adopt a Senior program.
Age-In-Place: Volunteer services are free to qualifying seniors. They are also intergenerational, bringing together volunteers of all ages and seniors to get the job done. A two-year grant from the Corporation for National and Community Service allowed the program to expand its service area and establish a satellite site at Trinity Episcopal Church. Partnerships with the DC Office on Aging, the DC Deputy Mayor for Planning and Economic Development, the Eugene and Agnes E. Meyer Foundation, and the Gwendolyn and Morris Cafritz Foundation have allowed Age-In-Place to build on this expansion, creating stronger community partnerships, engaging more volunteers in service, and assisting more clients in need.

Age-In-Place: Home Repair and Maintenance Services
Age-In-Place: Home Repair and Maintenance Services provides quality and reputable home maintenance and repair solutions to senior homeowners in Washington, DC. Seniors have expressed a need for more significant repairs to their home, shared how difficult it was to find a trusted and affordable contractor, and told story after story of being taken advantage of by fraudulent contractors. Age-In-Place: Home Repair and Maintenance Services will address these concerns while providing seniors with peace of mind, ensuring that they are connected with a trusted maintenance source.
Age-In-Place: Home Repair and Maintenance Services offers three services on a sliding scale fee basis including handyman repairs, contractual preventative maintenance, and advocacy and referral for larger home repair projects. A CCGH staff member coordinates the three services and will directly complete the handyman and on-going maintenance projects. Initial services offered include carpentry, electrical, plumbing, furnace, painting, gutter cleaning, weatherization, and much more.
For larger, more substantial home repair projects, the Coordinator serves as an advocate to the senior. This includes providing project estimates, serving as a resource to answer questions, and referring seniors to a pool of reliable contractors to complete their project.
