Christian Communities Group Homes
Christian Communities Group Homes, Inc. (CCGH) has been providing housing and care for low-income seniors since 1981 and became a subsidiary of Episcopal Senior Ministries in 2000. CCGH today operates three recently-renovated, small homes for low-income elderly in NE Washington, DC and a volunteer-based housing services program, Age-in-Place, that helps seniors maintain the integrity and safety of their homes.
A bit about our community and history…
CCGH was founded with the support of ten inner city churches. Throughout our history we have made connections to people and congregations of all faiths. Thus, the CCGH homes and program services are available to eligible seniors without regard to any religious affiliation. Individuals and groups from schools, churches, and the community at large play a big role in transforming our houses into homes by volunteering and befriending seniors. Whether it’s helping rake the leaves in a senior’s yard, sharing a meal or activity with our residents, or joining the CCGH Council in our fundraising events, there’s always room for one more in the CCGH community of friends.
Over the years, CCGH has been home to almost 100 seniors, many of whom had nowhere else to turn as they grew older. Our clients have ranged in age from 60 to 101, and have come from all walks of life, across the United States, and a few other countries as well. Several of our residents have celebrated a decade at CCGH, and some as many as18 years. So, CCGH truly means home for those who live here.
In the community surrounding the Group Homes, CCGH helps seniors living independently to remain at home through its Age-in-Place program. Since its small beginnings helping a handful of seniors on an irregular basis, Age-in-Place has grown to serve over 75 seniors a year in the neighborhood, mostly in Ward 5. Volunteers help seniors with yard work, heavy cleaning, painting, and light repairs free of charge.
A two-year grant from the Corporation for National and Community Service is leading Age-In-Place into the future. With the Corporation’s support and through a partnership with Trinity Episcopal Church, the program has expanded to a second site in the district, establishing a second service area, creating stronger community partnerships, engage more volunteers in service, and assisting more clients in need.
CCGH is a member of the DC Office on Aging’s Senior Service Network. The three CCGH Group Homes and offices are located on the one-block senior campus at 18 th and Channing Streets, NE, that includes a senior center and a nursing home----also part of the Senior Service Network.
